Understanding ADHD Assessments

ADHD can present differently from person to person and may impact many areas of daily life, including school, work, relationships, emotional regulation, organization, and overall functioning.

For some individuals, symptoms may have been present since childhood. For others, challenges may become more noticeable later in life as responsibilities, stress, or life transitions increase.

At Cowie Psychological Group, our ADHD assessments are designed to provide a clearer understanding of how attention, executive functioning, behaviour, mood, and emotional regulation may be impacting day-to-day functioning.

Our approach is supportive, evidence-based, and individualized. We take the time to understand each client’s unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals throughout the assessment process.

Signs You or Your Child May Benefit from an ADHD Assessment

Children, teens, and adults seek ADHD assessments for many different reasons.

Some common concerns may include:

  • Difficulty focusing or sustaining attention

  • Forgetfulness or disorganization

  • Emotional regulation challenges

  • Impulsivity

  • Struggling with school or work demands

  • Procrastination or task avoidance

  • Chronic overwhelm

  • Difficulty managing routines and responsibilities

  • Restlessness or racing thoughts

For children, parents may notice concerns related to school performance, emotional regulation, frustration tolerance, behaviour, or attention at home and in the classroom.

For adults, many individuals seek assessment after years of feeling overwhelmed, struggling with executive functioning, experiencing burnout, or questioning why everyday tasks feel more difficult than they seem for others.

An assessment can help provide clarity identify strengths and challenges, and support more effective coping strategies and recommendations moving forward.
